For Immediate Release February 27, 2008 Helping Kingston Households Pay Their Rent KINGSTON — Qualified Ontario households can now apply for assistance with their rent under the second phase of the Rental Opportunity for Ontario Families (ROOF) program, John Gerretsen, MPP and former Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing. The program provides a housing allowance of up to $100 per month for a five-year period to eligible low-income working families. Families may qualify for ROOF, if they:
“ROOF is a great program that provides working families, struggling to raise their children on a limited budget another chance to help pay their rent,” said Gerretsen. Eligible families who applied for the program last year have already received their first payments of the monthly allowances. These families do not need to reapply to continue to receive assistance. Applications will be considered on a first-come-first-served basis until June 30, 2008. There are a limited number of ROOF housing allowances available.
