Funding To Help Combat Elder Abuse
Ontario Government Improving Quality Of Life For Seniors in Kingston

NEWS

Ontario is taking action to help ensure the safety and well-being of seniors in Kingston by investing in programs to prevent elder abuse.

The Frontenac-Kingston Council on Aging is receiving $4,000 from the Ontario Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse (ONPEA) to help with:

  •  Service coordination
  •  Front-line staff training
  •  Public education

The Ontario government recently provided $209,000 to ONPEA to support the work of community-based elder abuse networks across the province.

The funding is in addition to the $1.65 million announced last year by the Ontario government to help put an end to elder abuse. These investments are part of the Ontario’s Strategy to Combat Elder Abuse, the first of its kind in Canada.

QUOTES

“Elder abuse in any form is unacceptable,” said Aileen Carroll Minister Responsible for Seniors and Minister of Culture. “Our investment in community-based elder abuse networks is part of the McGuinty government’s Elder Abuse Strategy to ensure the safety and well-being of Ontario seniors.”

“Our government is taking action to help stop elder abuse,” said Gerretsen. “Our partnership with ONPEA helps seniors in our community - and others across Ontario - access information and services about elder abuse when and where they need it.”

“The generous support by the Ontario government reinforces its commitment to helping seniors who have been abused or are at risk of being abused,” said ONPEA Chair Lori Flynn. “This funding will help local elder abuse networks mobilize community activity in the prevention and response to elder abuse.”

QUICK FACTS

    • This investment allows ONPEA to deliver one-time grants to each of Ontario's 52 local elder abuse networks across Ontario
