Kingston CELEBRATION 2010 awards announced!

KINGSTON – John Gerretsen, MPP for Kingston and The Islands today announced the 58 recipients of the inaugural Celebration 2010 awards at a community recognition event at the Invista Centre.

“I want to congratulate all the winners today and express my sincere appreciation for everything that you do for our community,” said Mr. Gerretsen. “Because of your efforts here in Kingston and The Islands as coaches, as assistants, as equipment managers, and as volunteers in many capacities, we are all winners today. I am very grateful to each of you.

“I also want to thank all of those people in the community who recognized your selfless service and came forward to nominate you for this honour,” he added.

MPP John Gerretsen launched the Celebration 2010 awards in early January with marathon swimmer Jenna Lambert and Sports Hall of Famer Joe Hawkins.

”It’s truly gratifying to see this commitment to amateur sports here in the Kingston area,” said Lambert.

“I was very impressed with the tremendous response by the community organizations to submit names for recognition for the unsung heroes of the community who make things happen in their organizations,” added Hawkins.

The awards were established to recognize a deserving coach, a behind-the-scenes volunteer in the local church league or that tireless assistant of the local sports team or recreation centre – anyone who, quietly and graciously, burdens themselves on behalf of sports and recreation in our community. All 58 nominees received a Celebration 2010 award.
