Helping Kingston Attract Talent And Investment McGuinty Government Supports Local Economy

FEBRUARY 26, 2010

NEWS

Kingston is launching a new website to encourage investment and attract talent.

Newcomers and potential immigrants will get the information they need to live, work and invest successfully in the community through www.immigrationkingston.ca . The site provides practical information and resource links about the region on such topics as:

  • finding a home or daycare
  • getting a job or career planning
  • locating a school or university
  • starting a business or investing

The new website is one of twenty-one municipal websites designed to help regions across the province promote themselves around the world. All the websites will be linked to ontario.ca/immigration, which provides information to newcomers.

Municipal portals are part of a $10 million investment, over five years, through the Canada-Ontario Immigration Agreement.

QUOTES

“This website will provide our community with the opportunity to promote itself to newcomers and potential immigrants from around the world as a great place to live, work and invest.”

---- John Gerretsen, MPP Kingston and the Islands

“We want to attract more new Canadians to Kingston to help grow our knowledge-based community, fill worker gaps in our health-care and skilled-trades communities, and generally grow our economy.”

---- Harvey Rosen, Mayor of Kingston

“My ministry is pleased to support this municipal immigration website, which will help to attract skilled newcomers and investment to Kingston,”

---- Dr. Eric Hoskins, Ontario Minister of Citizenship and Immigration
